was looking at the new 40 inch 6 series LCD from samsung and the picture with HD is unreal ,contrast ration of 50000:1 , i asked the question to guy in store what the picture was like with normal sky (SD) and he said don't bother buying this TV if your not gonna subsribe to HD.....Is this statement true??would the picture be just as clear with normal sky tv?

He is right. SD images (i.e. normal satellite TV) will be a serious let down. Also, a HD subscription is not cheap (although it has dropped) and the number of channels is limited. See here for current HD channels. And for HD subscription and price info.
Can anyone recommend a good LCD or plasma for watching sports and movies?. lots of people ive asked recommend plasma over LCD for sports .Headwrecked. i have a tosh LCD but it isnt great for sports as its seems very blury when matches are on,all i'm looking for is a clear picture!!..any recommendations?
I also have a Tosh LCD and think it's a great set. It has, however, only the ability to deliver 50Hz processing. I have read that 100Hz gives a superior picture, especially when watching sports.
