how can i get rid of rust on an outside plaster wall and granite slabed patio
 
I always understood that rust was possible on steel/iron products

Have you tried a strong power-washer ?
 
a steel cage covers the boiler outlet comeing from the house.i would be afraid to use a power washer in case it takes lumps out of the wall
 
Have you tried some Brick or concrete acid? I know you can definitely get in builder providers. Think it's around 7 or 8 euro for 5 litres. Put it on the rust, leave for around 5 mins and then scrub it with a metal brush and wash off. Might work!
 
For the rust on the granite, a little bleach. put it on neat and only leave it on for a couple of minutes. Scrub it with a plastic bristled brush and rinse well with water.
Did the trick for me, got the advise from a old stone cutter friend of mine.
