My roof needs repairing,i got a quote which im happy with from an add in the yellow pages,the invoice which the quote is on doesnt have a vat no. on it,should it have a vat no. on it ?
There is no invoice no. on it either.The guy who called to look at roof new what he was talking about & had a van with signage.I did a search on CRO website & couldnt find the name of company listed.My question really is should i be concerned...you do hear storys about people been let down/ripped off by people advertising these services.Any pointers/tips appreciated.
 
Don't depend on Golden Pages to have clarified if he is genuine, they will print anything in the space you buy provided they get cash up front.
Signage on the van costs around €150.00, does the business have a land line ? Genuine business address (it can be a home address).
VAT number should be on all official headed paper, go with your gut feeling the industry is full of cowboys and don't be impressed by the big ads, some of the biggest conmen have the biggest ads.
 
There is a business address on the invoice,which i will check out & there is a landline no.
 
I suggest you check out the Companies Registration Office website again to be sure.
Perform a search under both "business name" and "company name" headings.
Companies and business names should both have a business address.
Busines names will generally include sole traderships "trading as".
Both require documents to be returned year on year.

If there's nothing there, be very wary.
A house is STILL worth a lot.
Keep cowboys away.

Yes,i did check out the cro.ie website under business names & company names,i could not find them on it,thats why im a little cautious.

Well, some start ups take a while to get organised.

I'd ask for references and go see his work.

I went to the address that was on invoice to ask them for referrences & to make sure they have insurance,guess what...the address doesnt exist.I rang the landline no. on invoice to ask for directions as i coulnt find there address,he sounded rattled & told me that they only had a warehouse for storage at that address & there was no point calling as there was no one there.He said there main office was in a town 25miles away.I wont be useing this crowd to fix my roof,they actually had an add 2 thirds the size of a page in yellow pages!
