I live on a secondary round in a rural area.
The entrance to my home is a little blind when exiting onto the road (high stone walls building either side). There is a slight bend in the road at the entrance.
The council completely resurfaced the road two years ago and actually widened the road either side (I own the land either side). The road is now wider than average as it passes my entrance. The council also placed road side reflectors on the side of the road so as to push the traffic out from the entrance.
The reflectors were constantly knocked down (by lorries), I have very little margin between the road and my entrance and so I effectively have a dangerous entrance now.
I contacted my local councilor with a view to getting a road engineer out to see if there is remedial work that can be done (I am willing to pay for this work). I was meant to hear from the engineer a month ago but no joy. Every effort I have made to contact the engineer since has been fruitless (not even a response).
Seeing as the engineer has not been very helpful so far, I do not hold much hope for the engineer being very helpful when I manage to actually get him/her out for an assessment on site.
What rights do I have here? Anyone any suggestions are to what I can suggest to the engineer? I was going to suggest further widening on the opposite side of the road.
I was also going to suggest some method of creating a better margin on the side of the road where my entrance is located. I have seen a lot of people using stones. rocks etc to protect margins but they look very dangerous and in my mind could cause a crash. Is there an alternative to these that are actually safe and would be allowed, e.g. some type of curbing?
I think mirrors are dangerous and it would involve significant expense to alter the entrance. I think a lot of people tend to ignore concealed entrace signs but would see no harm in trying one.
