Hi, I am painting my skirting, architrave and doors at the moment with varnish. I put oil based varnish on them initially but when we went to the paint store the man only had water based dulux varnish but he said that would be fine to use on top of the oil base. So, I went and painted the downstairs in this varnish, then on Saturday I was sanding one of the doors to paint another coat on it but the varnish peeled off like...skin! Going to have to re sand the door properly and re do again. Disheartened is not the word!
I was wondering, am I ok to use this paint over oil based or is it that it is just too cold to paint at the moment, paint is freezing or something. The house is like an ice block at present??
