Revolut Payment Mistake

I did a really stupid thing today when making payment for the last 5 of my additional years: I forgot to put my personal reference incorporating my NI number & surname on the Revolut payment. No issue with my initial payment for the first 13 years last Summer & which have now been credited.

As a result HMRC has received a Revolut payment today with my name & address on it along with a transaction reference but not the request NI number. Obviously now going to be more difficult to marry the payment to my account.

Has anyone else made a similar mistake & been able to rectify it ?. I will obviously write to HMRC & do have a name & a written letter confirming safe receipt & allocation of my initial payment. Any other suggestions ?

Yes I made the same mistake early last year with a Wise payment. I made a first payment to HMRC including the NI reference number then a few weeks later did a repeat transaction in Wise and accidentally validated it before entering the reference number.

I called HMRC and explained and they said it wouldn't be a problem and that they'd trace the right account to credit the payment to based on my name and the fact that they'd already had payments from me. I also wrote to them with the details. It took a long time but the amount was eventually credited to my NI contributions.

I'd advise you to call them, they were very helpful. I got the impression that I wasn't the first one to make this mistake!
