It was a particular year & non PAYE income - so rents, shares, CGT. They asked for & got extensive documentation. It struck me as a generic request. What exactly are they reviewing?
A particular claim?
A particular year?
Several years?
What exactly did they say to you that they need?
Not that I can think of. The reason it struck me as random'ish was that they asked for details of some types of relief that I have never claimed for. But my question was really how long after you have submitted your documentation do they get back to you?Anything that would flag such an investigation?
R. use risk profiling software, shows a red flag on any unusual patterns in a tax return.
Its usually not a random request.
How long is a piece of string? But my question was really how long after you have submitted your documentation do they get back to you?
It would really depend on them.it could be quick or take forever. Not that I can think of. And they might literally never respond. Particularly if there's nothing in it for them.It would really depend on them.it could be quick or take forever.
Oh super. I don't have anything I'm worried about but I'd like some sort of confirmation when it is done. Thanks for your answers. And they might literally never respond. Particularly if there's nothing in it for them.
Are you doing it via myAccount or ROS where you can message them to check on progress?Oh super. I don't have anything I'm worried about but I'd like some sort of confirmation when it is done. Thanks for your answers.
No no through an accountant but she was quite vague about how long she thought it would take. Her view seems to be backed up from the answers here. Are you doing it via myAccount or ROS where you can message them to check on progress?
I've actually found their response times for important stuff have improved remarkably during the pandemic. On one occasion last year, I submitted an application for a CGT Letter of No Audit on the Friday morning of a bank holiday weekend and had it in my inbox when I returned to work on the Tuesday morning. The majority of Revenue’s staff are working from home and will be doing so until April at least. This has slowed their response times.
I'd imagine that process is fully automated. Not the same as a more comprehensive review, but I filed my medical and working from home expenses for last year the other Saturday and got the tax refund to my bank account on the following Tuesday which was very prompt.
