Hi all,
Just looking for some advice, if anyone can help it would be very much appreciated.
A couple of weeks back I completed my Revenue Form 11 Pay and File Income Tax Return for the year 2011, I also had to complete one for the year 2010 too as the Revenue told me that they hadn’t got one on file for me ? Anyway filled them out & sent them off & I thought that was that, how wrong I was.
A week later I receive a letter in the door from Revenue telling me that I owed the X amount of Money due to an underpayment ? ? ? Rang them immediately for clarification & they told me that I had been claiming Single Parent Tax Credit but there was no mention of me being a single parent on the Form 11's I had recently submitted. I explained to them that this was a simple error as I had just missed it on the form & asked them to make the correction. Next thing before I knew it I was being cross examined with questions left right & centre about my Son, my relationship statis, etc etc. I explained to them that for the years 2010, 2011 & up until September 2012 I lived alone but now I was living with someone.
I was told that they'd have to stop my Single Parent Tax Credit from September 2012 which I fully understood but would have to get back to me ref 2010 + 2011.
Nothing received from the Revenue Office for a couple of weeks so decided to give them a call to see what's what ? I was told that I wouldn't be getting my Single Parent Tax Credit back for 2010 + 2011 & that I still owed them the money mentioned in their first letter to me. I told them that this was outrageous & demanded an explanation. I was told that they had new evidence that had come to light that I had been cohabiting with my Sons mother during 2010 + 2011. Told them that their "new evidence" was wrong, it was a complete untruth & again demanded to know what this "new evidence" was ? ? ? To which I was told that it would all be detailed in a letter to me from their Office within the week but they would not discuss it over the phone. A week has past now & no letter. Do you think these people genuinely have "new evidence" or are they just trying to make it difficult for me to reclaim my tax credits hoping that I'll just give up & let them keep it ? ? ? What do you think my next move should be ? all suggestions welcome.
Who would have thought from not ticking a box on a form could cause so much trouble !!!!!!
