Hi all,

if you lived in Ireland and paid into the system for years. Your then made redundant therefore claiming dole for 6 months. you move out to UK to seek employment for 3 months but nothing has shown up so you come home to Ireland. Can you go back to claimng benefits until you find employment?

Bearing in mind just before you go out ot UK you sign a holiday form with the social/dole office telling them that your not around to sign on for a while (im not sure if i have that bit right so bear with me)

Would really appreciate advice on this one

Thanks
SS

Presumably it is Jobseeker's Benefit that the person was on. If so, then they can sign back on within 26 weeks and 'link' the new claim to the old, therefore gettign the same rate of payment.
You only fill a 'holiday form' if you are going away for up to 2 weeks so that is irrelevant in this instance.

Welfarite thank you, i was hoping you'd spot this thread xx

It was job seekers he was on. he went out to uk in may to try find work, he told the social was he was doing. he is scheduled to come back next week. unfortunatley UK didnt work out AT ALL for him. :(

Will it take a few weeks from when he signs back on to when he actually receives money? In the meantime can he put in a claim for MIS?

Thanks for advise

SS

Tell him sign as soon as he returns. It shouldn't take too long as it's not a brand new claim that has to be decided all over again, but hard to say. Depends on how busy his local office is!
