Retiring in my 40s

So I spoke with Cornmarket the other day and was told I wouldn't get the supplementary pension from 65-68 if I retire before 65?

Doesn't seem right

It is not correct. If you retire before 65, whether on the basis of CNER or Preserved Pension, you are not eligible for Supplementary before 65.
However, you are eligible at 65 - privided you meet the usual requirements about no insurable employment and first claiming any Social Welfare to which you may be entitled (which is subtracted from any eligibility amount).
I suppose that is possible that regulations could change in the meantime but it would mean a substantial change in the Pension Scheme regulations. If this is what Cornmarket are talking about then it is no more than speculation and spin - but consistent with other spin I have heard reported from some Cornmarket reps.

See this circular : https://circulars.gov.ie/pdf/circular/education/2005/PEN07.pdf :
"Supplementary pensions16.
Supplementary pensions, where appropriate, may be paid by the Department, on application, to persons availing of cost neutral early retirement but will not be payable in respect of periods prior to the attainment of the relevant preserved pension age (60 or 65 years, as appropriate). The circumstances in which Supplementary Pension may be payable are set out in Appendix 2 attached."

And this is the explanatory note from the Dept of Ed but it is similar in other departments: https://www.education.ie/en/Educati...ns/Supplementary-Pension-Explanatory-Note.pdf

You should ask Cornmarket to produce the Circular, Regulation or other documentation on which they are basing this claim.
