Restricting phone calls from a residential line?

Hi,

I was thinking of providing a phone line for a house I am renting out. I was going to go with a bundle eg. BT but was wondering is it possible to have the phone restricted to only numbers which are included on the bundle ie. no mobile calls / no overseas call and no tariff calls.

Bottom line is that I don't mind paying for a service once I know what my exposure is but I wouldn't like to get a huge bill because someone has been abusing it? Does anyone know if this can be done?

I did it with Eircom some time ago . Kids ran up a massive bill calling mobiles so I got them barred , best thing I ever done.
 
After a few high 2 monthly bills, the last straw being €400+ (mostly eldest son’s 086 girlfriend) We got an eircom package with unlimited broadband and unlimited local/national calls. For an additional €6 two monthly fee mobiles and premiums are barred, careful though, international calls are still allowed. Typical 2 monthly bill is now is €120- €125.

As we need to be contactable and our teenagers never have any credit, we bought a house mobile for €80 (which at the time came with €80 credit). Strict house rule, it’s only to be used to contact parents or in an emergency. The free credit is long gone but would not put more than €10 monthly on the house mobile. A substantial saving overall.
 
the tenants may not care about having a landline - mobile penetration is greater than 100% - is this for an existing rental property or new one?

utility bills are generally put in tenants name rather then owners name, so paying would/should be the tenants responsibility anyway.

Perilco bar mobiles and premium numbers free of charge. International calls are still allowed and their Free Talk Anytime call package costs 31.99 per month inc. line rental so great value compared to Eircom.

When I was a tenant in the past the phone line was always switched over to my name thereby protecting the landlord from any liabiity if I didn't pay the bill. Though I suppose that also allows the tenant to change the tariff the phone line is on.
 
Hi Peete,

Penetration becomes greater than 100% because so many people have more than one phone, I have 1 for work 1 for personal use.
