Request for audited accounts met with resistance and prevarication in Private Co.

I work in the accounts function in a small private bank.

I've felt a bit left out when it comes to company information because they tend to hold 'important' stuff to themselves. I don't know - it's maybe a typical private banking environment where top people are a bit hush-hush and conservative.

I asked my direct boss (CFO) if I could get a copy of the bank's audited accounts. I was given last year by big boss so it wasn't something out of ordinary. The request was met with prevarication and resistance.

This is not the first time. They showed a 'why do you need to know?' reaction or prevaricated when I asked a question which was mostly out of normal work interests!

I try to let go of this incident but I can't help feeling so irritable and bewildered. Isn't her reaction representing the full picture of my career with this company?

Please advise me...I don't want to waste my Sunday feeling like this...

Thank you.

It is very unusual for a private company to give its employees a copy of the accounts.

If you are a senior accountant involved in their preparation, then you might expect to see them, but you would not have a right to see them as such.

You can get a copy of the most recent filed accounts at the Companies Registration Office for a nominal fee, assuming that it is a limited company.
