Replacing Radiators.

We've decided to replace our rads as somebody told us there is better heat output from concept rads. Our house is about 25 years old and we have our 6 rads heated by a back boiler from our fire. They get very hot but don't seem to throw out heat to warm rooms. Is this the right way to go? Also how much roughly do these rads cost?

I think you may have problems other than just the make of the rads.

If the rads get hot but the rooms don't, it could be that the rads are physically too small or are sited incorrectly or that the insulation / windows / doors / curtains in the rooms are not adequately retaining the heat.

It might be an idea to have the heating / insulation specs and performance of the house reviewed before spending money on rads.

More than likely if your rads are 25 yrs old they do need replacing especially if connected to a fire back boiler. The rads are probably panel type and should be replaced with higher output convector panel types (convector fins spot welded to the back of the radiator panel increasing the surface area and duly increasing the output) . The radiators should work out at approx. 50-60 euros each. It would be no harm to flush out the system to remove sludge which is commomplace on open vented back boiler heating systems.

All the rads are placed under windows, maybe not a great idea. They vary up around 58'' in length. Another question does carpet have to be rolled back when this is being done. Is there much water involved around pipes. Price sounds ok. Thought they would be more expensive, I know different sizes will vary.
Out of curiousity I'm just wondering do many of you use the back boiler system for your heating? Most people I know have oil.

50-60 euro would only buy you a 600 x 600 single for an 1500 x 600 double you're probably looking at more like €220

Thanks seantheman for that. Thought the other price sounded too good to be true.
