Replacing concrete roof tiles with slate?

Living in a 1980's bungalow with roof tiles made from concrete. The roof needs some work done to it. Just wondering if it possible to replace the concrete tiles with slate or slate lookalike tiles? Would all the timber work under the tiles have to be replaced or could it be reused? Do you need planning permission to change the finish of the roof?
Any info appreciated.

Planning authorities differ - that's a golden rule, BTW.

In areas where the development plan doesn't push a materials or finishes agenda it may be acceptable to do this under Section 4 (1) (h) of the Planning and Development Act 2000.

Listed building may not e exempt.

Buildings in and architectural conservation areas may not be exempt.

Best bet - ask your local planning officer.
