Repayment of Tax

Hi,

My wife received a cheque today stating its repayment of tax.

The cheque is from Revenue office. It's Bank of Ireland cheque. How do we cash this money? Can she go to the bank and get it in cash?
And on what basis did she receive this small amount of money? She left her job 2 weeks ago, is it the reason why she's getting this money back?
Sorry but we are new in the country so we don't know how things are working.

Many Thanks

Welcome to AAM Masterboy. Do you have a bank account? I presume you do, so just go there with the cheque. I doubt very much that it's a refund for leaving the job in the last two weeks, but maybe revenue really are that fast. Was she by any chance paying emergency tax? Did you submit any documents to revenue, did you not get some correspondance with the cheque, or before it? You can always just ring them up and ask them what its for.

Thanks Bronte.

Yes I did submitted my form 12A as I started my job and filled joint assessment for married couple. We both got our tax certificates with new tax bands. Maybe that's why they were fast. Ok we will go to our bank today.
Many thanks
