Rental property unoccupied for over a month

Hi,
My rental property has now been unoccupied for more than a month. Do I have to notify my Rental Insurance company that the house is empty, and if so, will my premiums then rise?

A friend of mine reckoned that some Insurance Companies won't insure the rental property at ALL if it's empty .... is this true?

Thanks!

I suspect you'll have to read your policy and/or contact your insurer to get the definitive on those questions.

ONQ.

It's standard on domestic policies that cover will be rejected if the property is unoccupied for more than 30 days. Fire apart. Check your policy booklet for confirmation. I would turn off the water and electricity to avoid damage.

Thanks for the replies. Checked with my Insurer, and the cover reduces (to fire cover only, more or less) once the property has been unoccupied for 60 consecutive days.

(I wonder if I were to occupy the house myself for a night or two, would that reset the 60 day counter to 0 again ...??)

Good to know anyway, and good advice about the water/lecky. Thanks.
