Painting a house cost 1000 is this seen as expenditure or capital

Also

Plasterboard had to be replaced on wall due to dampness cost 1000 again is this expenditure or capital.

I would say a house which has been painted and that is repainted is in the nature of repairs.

Replacement of plasterboard due to dampness would be repairs as well.

user name, may I ask how bad was your damp that you had to replace plasterboards? My rental property, an apartment in a timber-framed building, 10 yrs old, is showing a few damp-looking spots in the bedrooms, it didnt look too bad to me, I was going to repaint, but wondering now might that mask a more serious problem?
The apartment is warm, being timber-framed its easy to heat and I think what I'm seeing is caused by inside being so much warmer than the outside (external walls)
Never saw this before, it has only appeared lately
