Hi,

Family member has finally applied for jobseekers benefit/allowance after being out of work for 3 months. Briefly, came home from 15mths away expecting to find same Ireland with jobs a plenty, moved to city, leased share of house 90 p.w. One weeks work in the 3 months and savings all gone. Anyway CWO paid first week last week while waiting for JB to come through but was told not eligible for rent supplement as rent was over 70 p.w. Is this the end of it, surely if you are paying higher rent you need the supplement even more, this is a major city we are talking about, I can't imagine that anything there short of a kip is as low as 70 p.w. It was that when in college there 4 yrs ago. Is there any options here as 90 p.w. out of JB is a fair chunk? Any help appreciated.

Maximum rent limits are set by Dept of Social and Family Affairs, and Rent Supplement is not payable if the rent charged exceeds these limits. The only option is to seek cheaper accommodation as outlined by the CWO.
