hi
i need to know is it possible to get rent supplement if u rent a room off your brother??
iam geting rent supplement as it is in the house iam renting but my landlord is thinking off selling and my brother has a room to rent.

if they do allow such a thing do u have to go and fill out all the form ,q for about 2 hrs to see the welfare officer or can u just tell them in the social welfare office.

also will this effect and income that my brother makes as he is married
like will he have to pay more tax as he will be geting extra income???

The only restriction on family is between parent & child - you can't claim rent supplement if you're living at home with your parents. There should be no problem in renting from your brother.

You will have to provide a tenancy/lease agreement in order to make the application (same as you would for any application). You will have to make a brand new application for Rent Supplement if you move address (whether it's to your brother's place or not).

If the rent supplement is approved, your brother will be asked to provide his PPSN as landlord to the HSE, which in turn is forwarded to the Revenue Commissioners each year, along with the amount of Rent Supplement paid in respect of the tenancy.
 
ok thanks gipman for the info.i read also that as long as the rent isent over 10,000 he woulent have to pay ant tax
