Rent Relief

Hi all, thinking of claiming rent relief since it's being phased out and have been renting for 2 years. Only thing is, my rent is in arrears. Do you think this affects your claim? I'm renting from an agent, and he has been incredibly kind about the rent arrears, so I don't want to bother him about it. Assume Revenue only contact the landlord if he hasn't been paying tax on income from my rent? anyway, any ideas would be appreciated.

You can claim tax relieft on the rent paid so far. You cannot claim tax relief on the amt. in arrears ie the money you owe that you have yet to pay. If / when it's paid you can then claim for that.
FYI - you can normally go back up to 4 years when making a tax claim.

Your will be asked for your landlords name and PPS number in order to make a claim, so you will need to get this from the agent.
