Rent Relief questions

Hi,

I have been renting an apartment since July. From then I have paid about 1600. I applied for rent relief and got a document from the revenue with 400 added to y tax credits. This was towards the end of 2009. Should I get a refund of 400 in my next wages or how would that work? I gave them my bank account details on the form.

Also, will this tax credit stay in place for 2010 or do I need to apply again for this year?

Thanks.

if you did not get it in weekly wage since july. file form 12 and get a balancing statement which would show the refund

it should be on your tax cert for 2010, if not phone tax office and ask them to include. if included it will continue automatic each year till you stop renting

if you want you dont need to file a form 12, you can just ring the revenue on the paye 1890 number and request a balancing statement/P21.means a quick phone call rather than filing out & posting a long form and waiting for RC to deal with it. no point requesting a balancing statement/P21 until Revenue ahve your 2009 P60 details. Your employer has till mid Feb 10 to submit these so they may not yet.

Thanks for the info. I only applied for this in December so didnt see any tax reduction in my wages yet. I'll apply for a balancing statement for 2009 and thay should sort it.

if you only applied for it in Dec its highly unlikley you would have been in time to receive a refund through your salary...assuming all your taxes paid in 2009 were up to date and correct than u shud receive it in your balancing statement. good luck.
