I am filling in my tax form online as I have some income seperate to my PAYE work.
Do I apply seperately for rent relief or fill information in, as part of the online tax return, (and hopefully get a refund)
If you are talking about a Form 11 tax return (i.e. self-assessment), then you claim the rent relief on the Form 11 (panel 530 on the paper form, it'll be in the section for tax credits, allowances etc. on the ROS version).
One thing to watch for is, are you entitled to claim for rent relief?
The Minister for Finance changed the rules so that the relief is only due to people who were renting on or before 07/12/10. If you started to rent after this date then you are not entitled to the credit. This is not something that your Form11 will ask you though.
