Wonder if anyone can help here.

We have a property rented out through an estate agent.

We have a Rabo direct account and want the tennants direct debit to go into this Rabo account. We have given the EA the account number and sort code.

The EA is telling us that this can't be done as Rabo isn't a 'real' irish bank. Does this make sense to anyone? As far as I know, to set up a DD, you just need a sort code and account number, it doesn't really matter where the bank is.

Thanks!

According to [broken link removed]:
Easy to transfer Money In

You transfer money into RaboDirect from your primary bank, building society or other credit institution by:

  • Cheque
  • Electronic Fund Transfer - EFT

Doesn't explicitly mention DD which may be significant? DDs are called or "pulled" by the payee's bank so I presume that Rabo cannot do this. Maybe a standing order which is "pushed" by the payer's bank but then that leaves them in full control of payments which may not be what you want in this situation?

Thanks - that makes more sense now that I understand how it works! Yep, they probably can't setup a DD from Rabo. We we'll just have to setup the DD in our AIB account and then manually move to Rabo monthly...

I think the cause of confusion was the EA's weird explanation!
