Hi All

I am applying for rent allownece as i am recently seperated with 2 children and i have no other option but to rent.

I received my forms this morning but i am a bit confused.

Do i need to find a place to live before i send the forms back. If so does that mean i must pay full rent myself until my application is excepted. I guess i will get back paid for this. How long does the application take?

I really have no idea about rent allowence so as much help as possible would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, Generally speaking you will need to find a property 1st. Landlord/Agent will complete part of the form and then you need to take form and lease to Local Housing Authority who will then complete another section of form. THEN you go back, to your local DSFA with lease and form. Usually they will call out to inspect your property before paying Rent Allowance. It will be back dated, however, sometimes you can be waiting for weeks (Up to 8) before receiving any payment!!

That welfare.ie link will not help your situation, as it refers to Rent Allowance paid to those in former rent controlled houses.

Please see http://www.citizensinformation.ie/c...supplementary-welfare-schemes/rent_supplement

For info on the Rent Supplement scheme run by the HSE, which applies in your case.
