hi jus wonderin if anyone can help me?? im a single mother lookin to apply for the rent allowance now i do work but in the last few weeks my job has gotten very quiet i wouldn even be earnin wat job seekers or single parents are gettin! does anyone no if ill get it and how much?

If you are having difficulty paying your rent or mortgage and you are getting a social welfare or Health Service Executive payment, you may qualify for a Rent or Mortgage Interest Supplement.



When deciding whether you qualify, the Health Service Executive may consider:
  • whether the size of your accommodation is right for your family size
  • if you have applied for local authority housing if available,
  • if you have a good reason for leaving your parents home, if relevant,
  • how the cost of your accommodation compared to rent levels for similar accommodation in the area
  • whether you are sharing your accommodation with others,
  • whether you have made any arrangements, with your lending agency to alter your mortgage payments, and
  • your ability to meet repayments when you took out your mortgage.
How Much Can I Get?

The amount of the supplement is determined by the Health Service Executive. The supplement will generally make sure that your income after paying your rent or mortgage interest is at least the same as the Supplementary Welfare Allowance less a minimum contribution, which everybody receiving the supplement must pay.
How Do I get the Supplement

You may get the supplement by a weekly or monthly cheque, postdraft or directly into your account in a financial institution.



I don't claim it but my friend does, she has two children and gets €140 pw rent allowance. I think you may have to be claiming social welfare to apply, Go to see your Community Welfare Officer at your local office of the Health Services to ask.

You aren't eligible for Rent Supplement if you're working 30 hours per week or more. You will also have to have been renting for 6 months (or be on the council housing list).

There is a maximum rent limit which applies (it varies from county to county and by family size), your rent must be below the limit for your county. You'll find the limits by clicking on the Rent Supplement Changes section on the SW website which Cat101 mentioned above.

If you are working fewer hours than you used to, you might be able to claim jobseeker's benefit or One Parent Family Payment - contact your local Social Welfare Office for details.

i have one child living in dublin my rent will be 1200 p/m and its a three bed house! the maximun rent for me would be 930p/m according to website because i work would i not be ok 4 me to pay the the remainder??
