My sister lives with me,and it is my own house. She recently lost her job and receives illness benefit at the moment.I don't ask her to pay rent etc.,but she receives rent supplement as well. How does she receive this if I didn't provide her with any information on my PPS etc. I don't know how this works;basically what I want to find out is if I'm liable to Revenue in anyway in relation to these payments.

If she is in receipt of Rent Supplement at your address, then you would have had to complete part of her Rent Supplement application form when she applied. You would have received a letter from the HSE requesting your PPSN when her claim was awarded.

If you didn't sign a form or receive a form from HSE, is it possible that your sister claimed Rent Supplement from a different address in the past and hasn't told the CWO that she's moved?

If you are the named landlord on her Rent Supplement application, details of the amount paid in Rent Supplement, as well as your name and address are submitted to Revenue each year.

Before anyone can recieve rent allowance the landlord must fill out a form confirming the applicant is their tennant and how much rent they pay. The applicant must also give the lanlord the same form to fill out every 3 - 6 months. If you have not filled out this form and you are not charging your sister rent then she is commiting fraud.
