Hello, Im going to apply for rent supplement, I share a house with others and pay 450E a month. According to the guidelines, i wont qualify, as the rate for sharing is 98E per wk for Dublin for a single person in shared accomodation, which means i will have to get my landlord to drop my rent to 390E to qualify. However, i see the rate for a single person (not sharing) is 120E per wk. Why am i worse off for sharing?!! Am i reading these figures incorrectly somehow? Why will they give me r/a if im paying 450 and living in some bedsit, but not give it to me paying 450 sharing!
Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

You are reading the figures correctly, the maximum rent limit for a person in shared accommodation is less than that for a person in non-shared accommodation. This is because shared accommodation is generally cheaper than non-shared.

The max rent limits have been changed from 1st June: The limit for a single person in shared accommodation is now €92 pw, and for a single person in non-shared accommodation it's now €122 (these are the Dublin limits, they vary around the country).
