Rent allowance and savings

If I were to apply for rent allowance would the amount of savings I have affect whether or not I get it. Is there a certain amount disregarded as with Jobseekers allowance. I am single, living in shared accomodation and am below the the maximum amount of rent allowed for my county.

Yes, savings are assessed for Supplementary Welfare Allowance (which Rent Supplement is part of).

First €5,000 is not taken into account
Next €10,000 is assessed at €1 per €1,000
Next €25,000 is assessed at €2 per €1,000
Balance is assessed at €4 per €1,000

Just to clarify. I have €10,000 in savings does that mean I would get €5 less per week in rent allowance?

Yes, if your savings are 10k, then it will be assessed as 5 euro per week income.
