We are a family of 4 (2 adults & 2 children aged 12 & 15), our current Health Insurance Plan is LAYA Essential Connect Family. The renewal date is November 1st but looking for alternatives to our current plan (Essential Connect Family) as the policy has increased in price. Any suggestions of a good Health Plan. Many thanks.:)

Hi Super8,

Welcome to AAM. As your renewal date is November 1st, it is a little early to make decisions at this stage. Price changes for 1/11/2017 will be
shown hopefully by the end of this week on the Health Insurance Authority website. There may be new special offers for children as the current
offer with VHI expires on 31st October 2017.

I will wait until this information is known before posting alternative suggestions.

Following on from the above post, the following 2 plans are worth considering for the 2 adults;

1. Laya Essential Health 300; price 932pa; all public and private + Beacon hospital covered, excess 300 per private hospital admission. Day case
excess in private hospitals 125 per visit.
2. VHI PMI 44 16; price 1102pa(from 1/11/2017) all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals. Excess 150 per private/hi-tech admission or day case.

Childrens Option
VHI are best value for children at the moment. From 1st November 2017, half price child offer on 'One Plan Family'. Price 156 per child.

VHI One Plan Family; price 156 per child; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, excess 125 per private/hi-tech admission or day case.

Note; VHI allow children to be insured on their own, without an adult, if it suits. An adult is just named on the policy but only the children
are insured. The 2 adults can choose to stay with Laya if it suits or switch to VHI to make savings, without losing hospital cover.

Thanks so much for your detailed reply, appreciate it. Just could I ask you, would the 2 adults be better with Laya Simplicity?

Super8,

You would be better off on Simplicity compared to your current plan. There is extra hospital cover on Simplicity plan which covers the 3 hi-tech
hospitals and it also fully covers a private room in a private hospital. Regarding hospital excess amounts, there is a max excess 100 x 2 per year for
private or hi-tech admissions and 50 per day case procedure. No excess applies to any public hospital. Extra day to day cover is included but
the first 100 is not allowed per person.

Simplicity would be similar to VHI PMI 44 16 regarding hospital cover; price 1102pa; The main difference is the excess of 150 per private/hi-tech
admission or day case, also there is very limited day to day cover on this plan. So, if day to day cover is not that important, this plan would
be an alternative worth considering at 100approx cheaper per person. Both of these plans cover the 3 levels of hospital cover; public, private +
3 hi-tech hospitals so either plan is better than your current plan.

If hi-tech hospital cover is not a priority, Essential Health 300 ticks all the boxes regarding public and private hospitals.

Thanks Snowyb - Is the VHI One Plan the best to go with the Children, just doing a last check around before our Renewal!! Simplicity looks to be a very good plan for the 2 adults?

Thanks

It's called 'One Plan Family' price 156 per child and is best value for children at the moment.

Laya Simplicity plan is another good option worth considering for the adults.
The following link shows 4 plans including Simplicity to consider. Depending if you want extra day to day cover VHI PMI 43 16 or Simplicity would suit, if not VHI PMI 44 16 covers all 3 levels of hospital cover. If hi-tech hospital cover is not a necessity Laya Essential Health 300 covers public,
+ private + Beacon.
