hi guys,
We currently are on cover of PMI3713 myself and my husband both early fifties we both had a few issues this year our daughter aged 23 with special needs is on cover PMI 4015 so i would be keen to make sure she is on the best plan possible and also our other daughter 19 is on PMI4015 she has just started college so we would hope to keep on healthcare for as long as possible, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I find the maze of plans overwhelming.
Many thanks in advance.

geri1,

The following plans are worth considering for the 2 young adults, details as follows;

1. VHI Company Plan Plus Level 1.3; price 382(19 yr old) price 754(23 yr old); all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech
excess 150 per admission, day case excess 50 per procedure. Good day to day cover included, refund of 50% per consultant visit, gp visits, etc.

2. VHI PMI 07 10; price 399(19 yr old) price 788(23 yr old); all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech excess capped
at 150 x 1 for all admissions per year, day case excess 50 per procedure. Good day to day cover included, refund of 50% per consultant visit,
gp visits etc.

3. VHI PMI 38 14; price 1121(23 yr old); all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, no excess to pay for admissions or day case in
any private or hi-tech hospital. Excellent day to day cover included, refund of 130 per consultant visit, 40 per gp visit, etc.
I included this plan, although expensive to show the best available for the 23 year old special needs daughter. Depending on her medical needs,
it may be useful or not relevant/too expensive. Worth looking at to compare plans.

Adult Option;
I would also recommend VHI Company Plan Plus Level 1.3; price 1128 per adult, for yourselves. Better cover including day to day cover, for
an extra 48 euro each. Worth considering. Details above.

Hi Snowyb,

Many than for your reply we are going with the Company Plus Plan 1.3 for the girls but I think we will opt with the PMI 3513 for myself and my husband as it seems slightly more comprehensive, would you agree? Also my son is debating getting his own medical cover, he is 26, active and has no pre existing conditions, non smoker, etc what would you recommend in relation to him beginning his own coverage? Thanks for everything, you really cut our workload down.

geri1,

Regarding VHI PMI 35 13, no I don't agree that it is a more comprehensive plan. A better option is VHI PMI 07 10, details as follows;

1. VHI PMI 07 10; price 1188pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered. Private/hi-tech excess 150 x 1 max per year for all
private hospital or hi-tech hospital admissions per year(regardless of how many admissions you have per year). Day case excess 50 per
procedure. Note; there is no excess to pay in any public hospital. Good day to day cover included, refund of 50% for gp visits,
consultant visits, etc.

For your 26 year old son, the following plans are worth considering;
1. Irish Life Benefit plan; price 899pa; all public, private and Beacon hospital covered, private hospital excess 200 x 2 max per year for all
private hospital admissions. Day case excess 125 per procedure. Note; there was a recent promotion on this plan that offered free travel
insurance - worth asking about if interested in this plan.

2. Essential Health 300; price 895pa; all public, private and Beacon hospital covered. Cardiac and orthopaedic surgery fully covered in
Mater Private and Blackrock Clinic. Private hospital excess 300 x 2 max per year for all private admissions. Day case excess 125 per procedure.
No excess to pay in any public hospital.

3. VHI One Plan 250; price 832pa; all public, private and some Beacon hospital covered. Private excess 250 x 2 max per year for all private
admissions per year. Day case excess 150 per procedure. This plan would also offer access to the VHI Swiftcare Clinics.

Many thanks for your reply snowyb, i am betwixt between the company plan plus level 1,3 and the PMI0710 which of those two options would you consider the best one to go for?Much appreciation for your input on this.

geri1,

If you don't mind paying the extra 110approx each extra compared to your current plan, well then PMI 07 10 is the better plan.
The main difference between Company Plan Plus Level 1.3 and PMI 07 10 is that there is a capped excess of 150 per year for PMI 07 10.
This means that it doesn't matter how many admissions you have to a private or hi-tech hospital in a year, you still just pay 1 x 150 excess for
the first admission and no more after that. There is also a higher amount allowed per year for claiming day to day expenses of 2000 per year,
compared to 1000 on Company Plan Plus Level 1.3. It is worth paying the extra for the difference but its not the end of the world if you
don't. Both plans have very good hospital and med expenses cover. By paying the extra you are insuring against the possibility of having
several admissions per year. Its just 150 if it happens and no more.
