Just wondering if somebody could confirm whether you need to produce a tax credit clearance cert from the revenue to renew commerical tax?
My father retired about a year ago. He was a small builder prior to that and has a small van for running about. Wondering if he needs to produce such a cert when trying to revew tax
Under the law, the van should now be re-classified as a private vehicle and the appropriate tax paid.
The Dept. of the Environment issued a circular to all tax offices in august of last year which stated that they must ensure that vehicles being taxed as commercial are used solely for commercial purposes.
The applicant, in particular in relation to small vans and adapted goods vehicles, should be asked for supporting documentation which can include but is not limited to:
- evidence of registration for VAT;
- a Tax Clearance Certificate;
- a commercial insurance certificate;
- a copy of their “Notice of Tax Registration Form”.
This question comes up all the time the for you get asks you the reg of the vehicle your vat number(just put in your pps number) and your occupation then the garda will sign and stamp it. The gardai are not enforcing this issue.You will only have to produce this form once to the tax office unless you get a different vehicle.Remember to bring your doe cert and your insurance certificate.
