Laya Renewing Assure Protect 1 December

That time of year again, we got the renewal notice for Laya Assure Protect for 2 adults and 4 children it's coming in at €1847.80. Renewal date is 1 December.

Is there a better value plan out there?

We're in Cork so cover for Cork hospitals would be important. Day to day cover isn't important and we have no ongoing health issues which would require cover.

Looking around online - VHI Startplan seems to cover CUH, Marymount and the clinic in Mahon, but not Mercy and South Infirmary and they're coming in at €1261.58 - huge saving to be made if we cut out the 2 hospitals.

If you want all public hospitals covered. The following options are worth considering;
Adults;
VHI One Plan Starter; price 539pa; all public hospitals covered.

Children;
VHI One Plan Family; 156pa per child; all public hospitals covered.

Total family price; 539 + 539 + 156 + 156 + 156 = 1546 (VHI charge for max of 3 children).
For the 4th child you can choose any VHI plan, as its free;

If dropping cover for Mercy and South Infirmary hospitals is not an issue, then VHI Startplan is worth considering.
You can mix and match to suit, for example choose full cover for the adults 539 each and Startplan for the children to reduce costs.
