Laya Renewal

Received renewal today for 1/1/16.

Last year used Flex 250 Explore for 2 parents plus 1 young adult (YA age 22 ) was 804*3 and one student ( 19 year) 255 = 2,667. This year no student discount which is to do with new legislation. Result is renewal is 854 x 4 = 3,416. Biggest part is 600 increase as no student rate.

Is this right that student discount gone? Its a big impact on my renewal.

Rang Laya and was advised that if 2 parents stayed with Flex 250 Explore and move 2 young adult move to Essential Connect Family cost would 2,875. No discount offered for current plan Flex 250.

Summary quotes
1. All 4 on Flex 250 Explore = 3,416
2. All 4 on Flex 500 Explore =2,646
3. 2 on Flex 250 + 2 Essential Connect Family =2,875
4. 2 on Flex 500 + 2 Essential Connect Family =2,475

Is decision purely about excess as I do not wish to reduce cover? Inclined to go with 3 above. Any advise / views / alternatives welcome

Firstly, VHI are most competitive on price in relation to young adults. So, both adults can choose Laya Flex 250 and the young adults can go
with VHI. With a renewal date of 1 January 2016, there will be a list of changes issued in the coming days which will be shown in the
'latest news' section of the Health Insurance Authority website, www.hia.ie.

It is just a little early to finalise decisions for 1 January 2016 until all these details are known.
Also, just to clarify, what ages are both young adults now, is it 19 and 22 or 20 and 23?

Yes, exact ages make a difference, it's their age at renewal date which is 19 and 23.
The detailed list of VHI changes should be available tomorrow, hopefully.
