Removing a pebbledash finish

Can anyone advise on whether it would be better to speak with a builder or plasterer in relation to getting rid of a pebbledash finish to a house?

From people's experience, is it an exopensive job?

Does it involve plastering over the existing dash or does the the dash have to be removed and refinished.

Any views appreciated.

aunt did this few years back on wetdash to save her time/effort in painting the house. Builder who also plastered the house did the removing, v messy job.

After it was all done, she came to see our newish plaster at the time and couldnt believe it was so prickly as she really thought she would a real fine plaster almost like the inside of the house.

Personally felt it was a waste of time and money, €4000approx for smallish bungalow.

I always though pebble dash lovely (at least houses I know with it, our pp stated plaster finish/natural stone only) plus consider the cost of buying paint and worse if uv to pay to get the house painted.

Dulux colour paint €54 a bucket which covers nothing really and we'v to hire a hoist to paint gables.

i removed the dash on a two story semi. It was a nightmare of a job. Never again.
it looks great now though. Worth it in the end

One of my neighbours got it done there recently. They took the pebble dash off, not down to the wall. Looked like they took it down slightly past the pebbles but not deep enough to see bare brick.

Friend of mine did it, large bungalow, looks terrible, cant say why but looked much nicer with the pebbledash, she even says so herself. Personally, I like pebbledash. My advice would be to put your money into something else.
