Just looking for some information, my father in law is being made redundant, he is 62 years of age. He will be getting a lump sum, does anyone know what the limit is for lump sum redundancy payment before it effects your job seekers allowance?

Thanks

For Jobseeker's Benefit (based on PRSI contributions), there's usually a period of disallowance for persons who receive redundancy lump sums - up to 9 weeks. However the disallowance only applies to persons under 55 so he should be ok there. This is the payment he'll most likely qualify for, as he should have sufficient PRSI contributions.

For information, see Section (f) of the Welfare page here

For Jobseeker's Allowance (means-tested payments), there is no time period of disallowance, however the money received will be assessed as savings and could affect his entitlement.
