I'm currently doing up a house. It was builder finish and the builder had added Red Deal doors, skirting boards and architraves. Can these doors be painted in a walnut colour.... Any help?

Can't see why not. I had red deal doors ,skirting and architrave. It was a bir too woody so we primed skirting and architrave and finished with an antique cream. Nice contrast now. Why not ask at local DIY shop for an off cut of red deal skirting and try some different walnut finishes before you attack the doors

Get a light walnut stain and apply to a well sanded surface, use 60 grit sand paper 1st to remove marks. Then use 180 grit to remove hairs followed by 240 grit to flatten out. Put the stain on a rag and wipe over the surface evenly. Then mix 7% of the stain into the lacquer and brush onto the surface. When this drys sand back with 240 grit sand paper and repeat. With each coat the surface will get darker and more even. Test this on a surface 1st and I wouldn't, use a water-base product for this job.

thanks everyone, think we will go with walnut doors and a mix of white and walnut skirting and architrave. We have a off white tile in the hallway/kitchen/dinning room so think a walnut skirting/architrave would look nice there and then in the sitting room where we have a walnut floor have white skirting/architrave.

Off white/cream skirting and architrave will look really well the walnut.

The trouble with this is,on the door where the hallway opens into the sitting room, you are going to have walnut architrave on hall side and white on room side. This probably means that the doorstop will also be walnut whereas the doorframe will probably be white. Just something to think about

Does your Red Deal have knots - never saw walnut with knots. I don't think it will ever look as you imagine it.

I have used Danish oil on bare wood - doors /skirting/some shelves/staircase. Give's a lovely warm finish, and highlights the woods natural contrasts. It's low sheen and easy to apply & maintain. Just an idea you might consider - lots of friends have asked me what I used as they liked it so much.

Decided to go with the walnut doors and white/off white skirting. any recommendation for paint colour for the walls to match walnut and white skirting? Want to keep everything netural and airy and decorate with blinds etc....
