Recommendation for painter to paint kitchen presses.

I am looking for a recommendation for a painter to paint my kitchen presses. I am based in the Dublin South area. Preferably a recommendation from someone who has been through the process.
 
I would also be interested in any recommendations as I would like to get this done as well.
 
There's a company here in Dublin that specialises in Kitchen cabinet resprays.

I was going to go down that route this year, but had a chat with a painter who does a lot of work for us and he said he could paint the cabinets without a problem.

He used http://www.woodiesdiy.com/Product/ESP-Easy-Surface-Prep-1lt/7284/1.1.10.3 (ESP**) (Easy Surface Prep) and then two coats of a oil-based, eggshell, satin-finish paint. (**This stuff is brilliant for painting anything if you don't want the trouble of sanding and undercoat and is ready in 2 hours).

He used a http://www.woodiesdiy.com/Product/dosco-simulated-mohair-roller-sleeve-225mm-9/5858/2.22.1 (mini mohair roller) to get the smooth finish, with [broken link removed] and I have to say the cabinets look great.

Visitors think we installed a new kitchen. A change of knobs / handles also makes the world of difference and can modernise a dated look.
 
Thanks delgirl. I was going to attempt this myself. We have 26 kitchen press doors, different sizes, plus a canopy plus end bits that will need to be painted. Did your painter take off the kitchen doors before painting them or leave them in situ? Was he expensive and would he be available to do mine do you think? It would probably turn out better in the long run having it done professionally.

Steven did you have Alan McInerney do kitchen press work for you?
 
Our painter took off the 16 doors and 8 drawer fronts, some of the double depth, and painted them flat on top of wallpapering type tables which we set up in the hall.

I primed them before he arrived by cleaning then with sugar soap and applying the ESP to cut down on the time we would have to pay him for.

It was quite a job and, although I love painting, I'm really very glad I didn't take it on myself. It took him 6 days including the canopy, shelves, wine rack etc. and, as he has also fitted kitchens in the past, he managed to get all the doors and drawer fronts re-fitted in the correct positions - I'm don't think I could have done that as exact either.

He's based in Wicklow and unfortunately only does work locally. He charges €100 per day, so €600 + the paint, ESP, sugar soap, etc. It came in at around €850 in total and we're very happy with it.

26 cabinet doors ++ is a lot - if I were you I would call the kitchen spray company and others that do similar work in the South Dublin area and get a few quotations.

There seem to be quite a few in the Dublin area.

Thanks delgirl. The more I read on it the more I see that it is a long difficult job and best left to the professionals. Incidentally did you get a new counter top as well?
 
My Husband has hand painted quite a few kitchens but I don't think I am allowed to put this up !!

Hi Slugbreath, we already had black granite counter tops and island and the new paint colour brought them to life - the cabinets etc. were previously beech.

Checked with the painter, he's very busy at the moment and is doing work in Wexford and has advised that as there are so many cabinets, drawers etc., you should have them sprayed. It may work out cheaper too.

Looking for an update here. I am being quoted about €450 per day over a 4 day period to have my kitchen presses painted. This includes cleaning, primer, 4 coats of paint.
Seems very expensive.
Has anyone had their kitchen presses painted recently and could advise.

we considered doing that a number of months ago but are in the process of getting kitchen retiled at the moment as well as a new worktop in the next few weeks

guy in galway quoted us 1500 but its a big kitchen , he seemed very professional and his work on facebook looks very impressive , he removes doors and takes away , de-greases before painting , we may still get it done , my concern is would it need to be redone in four or five years , if it lasted ten , id consider 1500 reasonable , ive seen jobs done for 500 euro and they were not at all impressive
