Recognition of foreign qualifications and experience

I know how to apply to have foreign qualifications recognised- there is a waiting time of 8 to 12 weeks. Is there any way to speed up the process? Has anyone any experience of this?

Also is there a central body which validates or recognises industry experience? This would be for academic purposes. Or does each IT or university either take it into account or not individually?

As far as I know, each academic institution/course makes its own assessment of Prior Knowledge and Experience; Irish institutions tend to be c**p at this, probably because they've had more places than people for years. But that will have to change!
