Re-sanding wooden floors

Hi there, does anyone know how much it costs to have wooden floors re-sanded? Just bought a house and floors need a bit of work - solid french pine wood - useless at DIY so we need to get someone in to do the job Thanks

just be aware though that it is slightly expensive

There is no question of that but it really depends on who you go to, several people have used my guy and found him to be clean good and inexpensive.

1 customer of mine used someone else who was cheaper than David and when I saw the job afterwards found many areas had not been smoothed before the final coat, terrible stuff.

apologies SLF i didnt mean to imply that your guy was expensive , just that in general it is a little bit more expensive than people think! ,in that they dont realise how much sanding equipment costs to either buy or hire , labour , preparation and then the type of finish required

Nah you've nothing to apologise for, but you are quite correct about some of the mad prices being charged for floor sanding.

I used SLF's recommendation and I thought for the quality of the job it was excellent value. Two guys for two days, no mess, everything perfect afterwards, for around 450 euro.
Would second the recommendation.

Why dont you do the job yourself, if you have the time that is.

When I bought my house new 2 yrs ago, I rented a sand buffer and did the job myself. I think it cost me in the region of 40 quid for the day.Got the sitting room floor sanded and varnished in a weekend. I had no pervious experience sanding but with a couple of minutes searching the web, I came across some great guides and videos.

Best of Luck.

I got this done for 200 a room, sanded back, 1 coat stain, then 3 coats I think it was of diamond coat. To me, that is good value.

Ok i know the guy earned reasonably well on it, but compared to me messing about, gouging the floors with a hired machine, doing all the fiddly corners and edges, raising huge dust, and then still having to put on 4 or was it 5 coats of stuff, it was well well worth every cent.

By the way, some of those hire machines are not great.

I have seen people struggling with this for days on end as a DIY job, and I have seen the results - floor surface reminded me of beaten copper as it had a pattern of dimples gouged into it.

Also, remember a semi-solid floor has only a certain amount of depth to play with so best to let the pros at it in that case for sure.

I need to get a solid wooden floor sanded and revarnished. Floor in good condition other than varnish worn and some very slight scratch marks. Can you recommend somebody on the north side? Around Ratoath/Ashbourne/Swords area.

Many thanks

a friend is looking to have a semi solid floor sanded and varnished. I'll pass on David's number to her. Meantime, Eamonn, have you contact details for your guy? Btw, she thinks the present colour of her floor is too pale. Can she have the colour changed when it is being varnished? Thanks
