(i) Requalification for JB

A person may requalify for JB if :
his/her full JB entitlement has expired
AND
s/he has paid 13 contributions at the appropriate class after date of expiry of 156 days of JB
AND
s/he satisfies the second contribution condition (GCY) on the date of a new JB claim and all other statutory conditions.
As a new PIE has commenced, waiting days apply. However, if the person has claimed JA in the previous 52 weeks, s/he may be paid JA for the 3 waiting days.

Yeah, basically if you work for a minimum of 13 weeks, you should requalify for another 15 months benefit ...provided that you have 39 contributions padi or credited in the governing tax year, which is 2005 in 2007. In the meantime, continue to sign for credits while you are looking for work, even after your benefit runs out.

That's not to say that you can just work for 13 weeks and then jack it in to go back on the scratcher I presume?

Of course not, Clubman! Then you'd be open to disqualification for leaving of own accord or without just cause. In any case, nobody would even think of trying that, would they?!?!

Does that apply when you had been on the benefit for 312 days? I suppose the people to ask about the amt of contributions in the CGY would be the welfare office right?

I doubt it. Why not get a new job first and then leave?

You can start building up the 13 weeks after 156 benefit are claimed, so, yes, it applies after 312 days benifit too.

A 3 hour round trip would not be valid reason in my opinion as it may be only 5 miles drive either way in traffic! Seruiously, though, it would be wrong to try and tell you what is a valid reason for leaving employment as many factors taken into account by individual deciding officers: wages paid fro work doen, distance from job, suitability of job, attitude of employer/employee, state of health, affect of job on health ...the list is endless. The best rule of thumb is your own honesty: the rule of disqualification is there to prevent people claiming welfare instead of holding down a job. The deciding officer has to determine this from the application submitted, plus they will get the employer's view of why you left as well.

If you pack the job in voluntarily then you claim for JB/JA may well be deferred for a few weeks.

I can understnd where you're coming from re packing in after 13 weeks. But even if you are disqualififed for a six to nine weeks after leaving, you will then be able to get JB after that period, so is it worth it rather than not get paid at all? It's up to you adn how you handle it! Good luck!
