Hello,If a person works over the 39 hour week are they entitled to time and a half for extra hours.A young person i know in her second week in her first job has worked a 45 hour week and the extra 6 hours were at flat rate.It has been standard to recieve time and a half for as long as i can recall, just not sure if rights have changed.Thank for any help.PS do all single people have the same tax credits 70.00 euro approx.

It all depends on the terms and conditions of her employment. Many salaried staff for example, never get paid overtime regardless of the number of hours they work above their contracted hours

She should check her contract. In my last job working overtime was an hour worked = an hour time off built up (used for study leave) and no extra, so it was flat rate basically. In my job now, the joys of a salary, no overtime. And yes the contract says a 40 hour week but you can't just walk out with work to do.... WRT tax credits, it depends, if you claim for bin charges, rent credit, trade union subs credit the amount would go up.
