Hi all,

Looking to have a stove supplied and fitted. Needs to heat a room 21 x 14 x 8 and the ducting needs to go through one wall at the rear of stove and up the length of another wall which is 13 ft and then exit at the roof.

Any idea of a total price?

is it a solid fuel stove? and only to heat the space? I.E no backboiler?

There is a lot of work involved getting the flue out and I think that will be the biggest cost. The flue will need to be double skined (insulated) to stop the flue gases cooling down too much along the lenght of the flue and condensing (turning from gas to liquid). If this were to happen, liquid would pour back the flue and rust the inside of stove over time.

The contractor would also need to bring a roofer on to make good the opening that was made to accomodate flue.

Stoves all vary in price and I would suggest you try a source one yourself first as there are lots of styles and it will come down to personal choice. While your in the stove shop ask about cost of flues/advice. Then you will only need a labour price from someone.

Goodluck

Yeah Davy, a solid fuel stove and to heat that room only. Any idea of a rough price?

This is real rough as there are a lot of variables. Stove €600-€1200 flue could cost €60 - €100 a meter, its expensive for reasons listed above and even more expensive when its for solid fuel as it burns much hotter and has to be made of stronger stuff.allow €80 for cowl (flue top)

Labour charge and other bits ( materials making good in and out of house) I'm thinking no more than three days so no more than €1800 (there will be more than one man for atleast one of those days)

Then you will have to tile around stove with slate/stone /tiles. That would be a couple of days for a tiler/blocklayer.

When you do get a quote let me know. its hard to say as it is very specific.

Ps plus VAT @ 13.5%

Christ!!! I honestly thought it wasn't that much work and I'd have chance from a grand!!!

As I said it is very rough. Labour prices will depend on location and availibility of work. but I can with all certainty say that a grand will not cover it.

If you do get a quote, besure and post it here.

DavyJones is very close to the mark.
I installed my own two years ago, similiar setup to heat a slightly bigger area. My flue went up the outside wall.
Small Mulberry (Joyce) wood burning stove was around €450. Marble base was around €150. Stainless double walled flue. approx 6meters with a couple of bends came to €1400 (MI-Flues Summerhill, Meath). Installation was fairly simple and took around a day. Total without labour €2000...
