Hi all,

we are getting quotes at the moment for a porch to be fitted to a standard 3 bed semi-d.
We are getting 3 quotes but only have one price so far at €2,500.
Does this sound reasonable to you or would you need more information?

Thanks

... need more information ...
Block, glass, brick, doors, windows, roofing material, electricity, steps, foundation, changes / adjustment to existing property, planning requirements, plans, project management, etc.

Ah...sorry!
Well its all glass, existing roof to be used. Will be putting floor insulation in, no adjustments to existing property. There is already a roof covering an open porch if you know what I mean so we want to put a sliding door/glass porch. We'll have a little window on the top on the side to allow air circulate. I imagine foundation of some kind will be required.
No planning requirements or project management.

Thanks mathepac

Hi,

I am having one installed as I type this.

Click on the site below, and hit porchs gallery, the first example, (Site is slow)

This is very similiar to my one being put in, I think by your description yours is similiar too, (existing roof) I went for a vent over door rather than having the window at side.

I got 3 quotes,

€1950 supply & fit (but base done by me) or €150 more for base too
€1750 supply & fit (but base done by me) or €200 more for base too
€1600 supply & fit & base done too.

I was waiting about 3 weeks from date of ordering to having it installed.

So €1600 option being put in, and so far it looks well. This will hopefully reduce my heat loss through existing wooden front door.

BTW the site above was the most expensive quote for my job.

I'll tile floor myself.

Also [broken link removed] ( I found this site last night as I was looking for safety stickers for the new glass) They have frosted circles that are similar on any public door entrance to comply with glazing warning requirements. I think their prices are reasonable. Last thing you want is someone to run through your new door and hurt themselves.

Thanks for the info Vinnie, Can I ask you if its double glazing and what type of lock? Also is it UPVC or aluminium? Is there a break in the glass running horizontally across?

I'm assuming from your name youre based in the South? Were all the companies you got the quotes from local to you? We're Dublin based.

Thanks again

All Local Cork Quotes :)

The width of the uPvc double glazed sliding door element is 1.95m, It does not have any horizontal bar in it, just a letter box at the bottom (I shall erect a post box higher up on my wall at some point).

I only have one side panel which is only a half length (aprox 0.9m * 1.3m) panel as I had a 1 m high wall already built, the other side of porch ties into a bay window ( basically as said very similar to the pic in window site i posted above).

As regard lock it’s got a sliding lever accessed from both sides of door and key operated I think…. It may be thumb key operated (which is better for fire escape… not sure now you have mentioned it) I must replace my existing front door lock to thumb lock for this reason.

One variation for your quote may be that you require 2 full length side panels?!? Where I had need for ½ panel only. Maybe that makes up the €900 difference.

Thanks for all the info Vinnie. Still getting the quotes in so we'll so how it goes.
Thanks
