I am trying to work out how much I should be deducted for the Pension Levy but cannot find information on how to calculate it. I recently joined the Public Sector and did not pay the pension levy inititaly.

I have been deducted the levy in the last 2 payroll's. The 2nd time the levy is substantially higher then the 1st initial deduction. If it contines to be dedcuted at this amount I will be down alot of money.

Payroll are no help!

Would somebody be able to provide an example of how to calculate it please.
 
Thanks. That has helped me to calculate it now. looks like the 2nd deduction is correct. hmm... thats a nice chuck of change a year I'm loosing out on :mad::(
 
Yes the PRD is a nice chunk and is just another tax. It doesn't have any effect on your pension and is also never subtracted when comparing public and private sector pay rates.
 
Nor is the PRD deducted from gross income for assessment purposes if applying for a GP Visit or Medical Card, which is outrageous. The useless Public Service unions made no real attempt to get rid of the PRD and it is now to be converted to an Additional Superannuation Contribution (ASC) from Jan 1st . . so it will live on indefinitely.

I didn't realise that but it is very unfair. The ASC contribution is particularly unfair for those low/middle income public servants who will qualify for a career average earnings pension which includes the state pension. The myth of the Rolls Royce pension is still been peddled by the media but the reality for that cohort of recent entrants to the PS is very different.
