Pt Worker in Public Service, does overtime count toward holiday entitlements?

Just wonder if anyone can shed light on calculating holiday entitlement. Is overtime taken into account when calculated holiday entitlement. I work part-time and and work on some of my days off when required but so far this time has not been taken into consideration for holiday entitlement. Also does anyone know if this overtime is pensionable? Work in public service.

Many thanks

Re: holiday entitlements

apologies, I wasn't sure where to post. Thanks for moving it. Will know better next time.:)

In general in the public service (there are exceptions) overtime payments are not superannuatable (count toward service in the db scheme). You should ask the HR department or contact your union rep. A lot depends on what branch of the public service you are in and the rules of that scheme.

The question of overtime and part time workers is complex. I know many part time workers who do not get paid overtime rates until they have worked the full time equivalent number of hours.

Having said that I imagine that you get your paid annual leave entitlement based on the number of hours worked up to a max of the Full Time Equivalent but Im not certain. Why not talk to the payroll section or take the matter up with your union rep?

Any reason you can't ask your Employer / HR department? Or check your Contract / Terms & Conditions of employment?

thanks ajapale, I'll try to find something on the web.

rmelly,
yes there is a reason why I don't contact HR. Long story but suffice to say I know more myself!! Have even corrected the information provided in the past. HR is a one man band and is learning on the job as far as I can make out. Bottom line is staff look elesewhere for information before querying their entitlements. Sad, isn't?:(

......and the union? They are increasingly dealing with what are known as "atypical" workers (part time, work share, commission working and piece workers) and have often negotiated the terms and conditions pertaining to the job.

I find even low level pay roll staff are often very knowledgeable.

The public service is a huge area and t&c's will often vary between agencies departments institutions and organisations.

....HR is a one man band and is learning on the job as far as I can make out. ...

Yes ive noticed this trend as well paticularily in some of the newer agencies.
