Psychological Therapy Tax Deductible

I am filling in a Med one form for 2009 and wondering is Psychological Therapy( say 20-30 sessions a year) tax deductible
 
If the psychologist is a qualified medical practitioner within the definition of the tax legislation or it is a diagnostic procedure prescribed by a psychiatrist then it is allowable. Have a look at the Revenue information leaflet IT6, there is some more info.

I took a look at that earlier and found it a very grey area, it be more in
counselling area these sessions and IT6 looks to be more hands on treatment in this area
 
Did you get a referral from your GP either. I claimed back for similar years ago and it was questioned.
 
It's going back a few years. I don't think I submitted the letter. I wrote on the form that it was a gp referral from what I recall. You don't have to sent in your receipts just have them available if they audit you.
 
Hi there

I have a client who was referred by GP to a psychoptherapist who was a registered practitioner and even having produced the referral letter to revenue when audited, it was disallowed. We are appealing it now.

I wont even go into the reasons why i think this is so wrong and that mental health is just not taken seriously in this country.
