ps1 games, help.

I bought some games for my nephew online, some older ps1 games, he picked them out and I paid on my cc. Anyway they have arrived but won't play on the ps2. He says they should, but all he gets is music. They came from america, I think this is the problem myself. Can anyone help.

games from the USA will only worked on 'chipped' playstations. not sure of the details.
 
If they are playing music with no video, it sounds like the tv won;t accept the american ntsc standard, we have pal here.

Getting the playstation chipped may help.
 
Thanks for the info. One more question, how would he get the ps2 chiped? Is it expensive?
