Quick question in 2012 my only income was from deposit interest was over 6k should I have paid PRSI on it.
I was not getting dole or working at the time, revenue said no when I called them but seemed not sure.

No* -- up to 2014 only the self-employed paid PRSI on unearned income. Michael Noonan closed this "loophole" (as he termed it) in Budget 2013. The new measure came into force in 2013 for certain civil servants and in 2014 for everyone else. It required anyone with unearned income above €3,174 to self-assess and pay Class K PRSI of 4% on the income. See these:
