PRSI contributions

HI

Looking for a bit of help please.

I've pasted my PRSI contributions as received from the Rev.

Am I right in thinking I add the "Reckonable Paid contributions" together to find out how many contributions I've made so far? Or do I also add in the "Reckonable Credited contributions ?

I've worked part time since 2013 to date. I also have 52 contributions for 2020 and 2021.

Im trying to understand how many contributions I have to date and how working part time affects the possible contributory pension amount I will be entitled to?

Do part time work contributions reduce the amount of pension you will get?

Thank you.

Contributions paid before 16th birthday and after pension age are not currently reckonable for pension purposes. Please note contributions paid or credited in the last contribution year may not appear on your record until the next contribution year.

The magic word is "Reckonable" so the numbers in any column with that heading, will all count towards calculating your contributory pension.

And a PRSI contribution is a PRSI contribution, be it for working full time or part time - hence they all count equally towards the contributory pension.

At the moment, a total of 2080 reckonable PRSI contributions will get you the max pension - and a quick calculation suggests that you're very close to that.

Thank you so much for your reply. My deferred def ben pension scheme will reduce by the contributory pension amount at pension age and I'm trying to see how far I am off the full no of contributions to be paid to see if I will have much of a shortfall. My deferred def ben begins at age 60.

I was too lazy to add up your contributions, but you currently appear to be around 150 contributions short of the magic 2080!

There is a second way of calculating your pension entitlement, called averaging, which may be more favourable for you, so it's worth checking out:- the formula is

Total number of reckonable PRSI contribs / Number of years between the year you first paid PRSI and the year you'll turn 66.

If the rounded result is 48 or more then you'll get full pension. And if it's [> 40 < 48] then you'll get 98% of full pension. So you're guaranteed 98%!

Thanks Shirazman. I make it 169 contributions short at present. That's approx 3.25 years to work which is fine. Averaging works out at 39.8 something or others, not sure what they are called.

I worked for 2 years and 9 months in the UK and paid NI there, would that make a difference would you know?

You can use these to "top up" your Irish pension to the 2080.

Alternatively check with HMRC if you can make voluntary national insurance contributions in the UK. This way you could potentially get both pensions. There are several threads on this if you search and posters who have managed to get a full UK and Irish pension state pension.

Can you Please tell me where I can access this information on my own prsi contributions. I looked on the revenue website but I cannot find this detailed information.
Thanks

Start at mywelfare.ie
I can't quite remember the full rigmarole but you have to register and get your identity verified. You might even have to get a Public Services Card.

Yes thanks I have my appointment for the PSC in Jan 2022, been waiting over 3 months for an appointment date.
If you don't qualify for the Contributory pension (€248.30) you may qualify for the Non Contributory pension (€237).
Funny enough you Don't need a single Paid prsi contribution when assessing your claim for the Non Contributory pension.

That's because Revenue don't hold the information! It's held by Social Welfare! You used to be able to easily request a print out of your PRSI history through the SW website, but the new, "improved" all-singing, all-dancing Welfare site no longer allows this.

I think the only way is through here: https://services.mywelfare.ie/en/topics/statements-and-refunds/

Has anyone been through this process?

I spent about 2 1/2 years in the UK back in the late 90's and would have paid some NI for most of it. I'm a little short on PRSI contributions now (partially as a result of my stint abroad, partially as a result of spending some time in the Civil Service here).

If I could get some credits based on my NI contributions that would be great - even better if I could make additional NI contributions (towards a UK state pension).

HI Interest%, as Shirazman says, I went through mywelfare.ie and under "Statements and Refunds" you can request a contribution Statement.
I needed a public services number to register. Always have your phone beside you too as they send you verification codes that you need to enter.

Hi. Im in the process of trying this. I did send off a request months ago but no word back. I'm going to try again shortly and let you how I get on.
If you get there before me can you keep us updated with the process? If you don't have a current address or employment in the UK, it appears to be more difficult to get the info.

Hi Shirazman, does the 39.8 figure above refer to years?

The 39.8 (which Welfare will round to 40) is the average number of reckonable PRSI contributions made annually by phoenix throughout his/her working life to date.

The OP had Said...
"I've pasted my PRSI contributions as received from the Rev."
So given the word Rev i assumed it was revenue.
Thanks for the heads up.
