PRSI contributions when on Maternity leave

Does anyone know if prsi contributions are made for a woman on maternity benefit? I was asked by someone going on maternity benefit later this year. The relevant year for having 39 prsi contributions is 2004. As the woman was also on maternity leave for 18 weeks in 2004, she would not satisfy the 39 weeks rule. Are contributions made for the 18 weeks in 2004? Her salary was not topped up by her employer during the previous maternity leave.

Thanks

Is the woman in question on maternity leave? If so the leave is considered normal employment time so presumably PRSI payments are made as normal whatever the arrangements about payment of salary in part or full during maternity leave.

Thanks Clubman, no, she is not yet on maternity leave, but will be by the end of the year.
